World Track Championship medalist Caroline Ryan is set to ride with Matrix Fitness – Prendas later this month in the UCI 1.2 ranked road event, Valkenburg Hills Classic. Based around the famous Cauberg climb, used as the finish for the Amstel Gold race, the event is one of toughest one day classics in Holland.
Caroline won the Bronze medal in the points race in the 2012 World Championships, and in doing so showed the world how strong she is. “Caroline’s ride at Worlds was very impressive, and I think it will have caught a lot of people’s attention” commented team manager Stefan Wyman “We’re really pleased to be able to give Caroline the chance to race in Europe as she continues her build up to the London 2012. I think it’ll be great to have her with our young squad for the event and I’m sure everyone with benefit”
Caroline took part in the Celtic Chrono at the weekend, finishing 11th in the event behind winner Wendy Houvenaghel. Next on Caroline’s schedule is Chrono Gatineau in Canada before returning directly to Belgium to meet with the Matrix Fitness team ahead of the Valkenburg race.
“The Celtic Chrono was a big success. Everyone has been so enthusiastic about it that I think the guys will have to run it again next year whether they want to or not!” commented Caroline about last weekend’s Time Trial event in Ireland. “I wasn’t delighted with my own race; I was off my normal pace. But the body has been coming back around slowly since Track Worlds and it took a while to get the road legs going. I know they’ll come around soon.”
