Day one in Italy

I wouldn’t normally write a blog after just one day of training but today was no ordinary day.

To start the day my darling husband produced a Canadian Dave style compliment. Our friend Dave deserves a whole blog to himself he is that much of a legend, so for now lets just say life with Dave is ALWAYS an adventure. He once told his girlfriend ‘you make your clothes look ugly’, while actually trying to tell her she is so beautiful that any clothes she wears  will never compare to her beauty!  This morning he said ‘you look so much healthier when you aren’t so race skinny’. I’m pretty sure he was complimenting me there somewhere.

Then we headed out on the ride at 8am, in its self quite shocking for us, for a steady 3 hour ride which then turned into 4 but hey what’s an hour among friends. After about 2 hours we came across our last hill before home when we hit a slight hitch. There were another group of riders walking across a grass field with their bikes on their shoulders. After the obligatory funny jokes between us we soon found out they weren’t quite as stupido (thats Italian for stupid!) as we had originally thought. Just around the next bend the entire road had collapsed into a big hole in the ground. Now I may have improved my cross skills significantly this year but I’m still not a free rider so we had to turn around.

So off we set on our way back to the Mpire training centre for a well deserved lunch. There are loads of groups of bike riders about all the time so we didn’t really pay much attention to another pro looking group coming the other way until they got a little bit closer and we saw they were Garmin riders and the great Roger Hammond was sat on the front waving at us. Obviously being Roger’s biggest fan (there aren’t too many riders who have made it as both cross riders and road riders so its pretty obvious the amount of respect I have for him) we turned around and headed back after them as he dropped back from the group to talk to us pretty much making my week and its only just started.

As you can see a day like this deserves its very own blog!!
