Penny Checks in before Spanish Training Camp

After a very relaxed and enjoyable winter, with only simple things on my mind such as which Christmas film to watch next, which chocolate to choose from the selection box and whether there should be more logs on the fire. Along comes 2012, and its true to say on behalf of me and the rest of the girls that we are very grateful to be so well looked after, with 2012 as our 3rd year of sponsorship and continued supported by the same team. We have a lot ahead of us to look forward to, and to mix things up there are a few changes such as our team name, team kit and new team mates!

With the 1st January gone it’s time to crack down with training and head over to Spain for a while. I’ve never been with my bike before and didn’t expect to until my Dutch friend Karen called and suggested the idea, so with the boyfriend off on a team training camp……why not. With only a weeks notice to prepare this seems nothing out of the ordinary as spontaneous decisions are becoming familiar.  I fly on Tuesday at a ridiculous time (I didn’t even know 4am existed) to stay in Spain (Calpe) where I’m expecting big things from the place such as mountains and hot weather, but then again it is January.

Another positive to look forward to is the opportunity to live and race abroad with the generous help from my team and the support and financial backing of the Dave Rayner fund, which it wouldn’t be possible without. The fund has been set up in Dave’s memory in order to assist riders like him, to make a successful career from cycling on the continent of Europe. He first started off in Italy which is somewhere I would also like to experience racing, before I head over to Belgium this coming season. Hoping for another successful year with the team, and I know for a fact it’s going to be entertaining, eventful and enjoyable.
